Dr Çakıl Agnew (nee Sarac)

    Assistant Professor

I was awarded my PhD in Psychology from the University of Aberdeen (UK) in 2010. My doctoral research, supervised by Prof Rhona Flin and Dr Kathryn Mearns, examined how staff perceptions related to safety issues are linked to safety behaviours and to the consequences both for the workers and the patients in a healthcare domain. Following my PhD, I worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Industrial Psychology Research Centre at the University of Aberdeen. My work here focused on the leadership behaviours of senior charge nurses as team leaders in relation to safety-related outcomes.

    Research interests

I am particularly interested in the impact of safety culture and leadership on performance at work, mainly in high-risk industries. My work on organizational safety culture and safety leadership has been mostly undertaken in the context of healthcare, transportation, energy generation, aviation and oil and gas industry.
