excellent learning experience combined with strong
and active research culture

Assistant Professor

I joined Psychology in the School of Life Sciences as a lecturer in August 2015.

I obtained my PhD in Psychology from the University of Pavia (2009) where I also completed my post doctoral training before joining Heriot-Watt. From 2008 to 2009, I have been a visiting scientist at the Department of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada.

My research aims at promoting a comprehensive and clinical friendly approach to the study of complex neuropsychological functions, with the final aim of developing rehabilitation oriented paradigms. I focus on body representation and related functions (such as motor imagery and multisensory information) and on emotional processing. I explore these functions in healthy subjects by means of classic behavioural paradigms and physiological manipulations that include caloric vestibular testing (CVS) and, more recently, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). I am also specialized in neuropsychological testing and in planning and delivering experimental rehabilitation to brain damaged patients.

I mainly focus on research, but I occasionally practiced as a clinician, working with brain-damaged patients (i.e. Alzheimer and Fronto-temporal dementia patients, traumatic brain injury patients) both for diagnostic and for treatment purposes. As such, I am a nationally registered psychologist in Italy.
